That's an electricity bill of more than $4 billion a year. The bad news is that, with big screens becoming popular, power use is rising fast and could reach 70 billion kilowatt-hours by the end of the decade.

... some owners have threatened legal action saying their screens have been ruined after watching cricket or motor racing.

Apparently they are not thinking of suing the plasma screen companies for not coming up with a technical solution to the problem. Instead it is the TV channels they are considering setting their briefs upon. They say that they should move the logos around a bit to make sure that the screens are not destroyed.

Toshiba on oma LCD-paneelidele juba vindi ja raaligi sisse ehitanud:
Toshiba announced a new series of LCD TV's with their MetaBrain System (a small PC in your TV). The Regza range will be available in 3 models: the H, the C and the Z. The H series will range from a 32 to a 42" with a resolution of 1366x768 (HD Ready), LAN, HDMI port and also a 160GB HDD to record whatever you see on the screen. The C series will be 26 to 37" big, also HD Ready with a 1366x768 resolution, a LAN port, but no HDD... but as with all MetaBrain TV sets, you can record video on a networked PC. The Z series is available in 32" (HD Ready) and 37 to 47", and these last ones are Full HD, and they have the function to record on a networked computer. So that's the latest on the MetaBrain TV's from Toshiba... and just FYI Rezga stands for Real Expression Guaranteed by amaZing Architecture.
